I was asked to create a book to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Manitoba Motor Dealers Association (MMDA).
The book is made up of four parts: the history of the mmda, mmda hall of fame, and the history of each mmda members.
I started by going through the MMDA's archives, scanning in pictures and old logos, and learning their history. I also interviewed the retired director who had spent most of her career at the MMDA to learn all that I couldn't find in the archives.
I contacted all 113 members for a brief write up of their histories and for historical photos. Not all members were able to reply, so I had to do research online and interview an automotive industry journalist to make sure all members were represented.
For the general look, I wanted to go for a scrapbook style of design mixed with modern typography. I chose the cover colours of orange and blue as a modernization of popular 1940s colour schemes (which was the decade in which MMDA was formed). For the typography, MMDA has many older members so I went with a large body copy of a very readable serif.
The book was unveiled at a special 75th Anniversary Event and has received a lot of positive feedback from MMDA members.
